Several possibilities are suggested by the TT corpus:

• colpito da
  
• intaccato da
  
• soggetto a
  
• attaccato da
  

Notice that together with these equivalents having the same part of speech (past participles), we find other alternatives: che presentano ("that present"), attacco da parte di ("attack by"), con l'intervento di ("with the intervention of").

Corpus consultation can also be useful when you feel you are keeping too close to the source text, and would like to find alternative grammatical turns of phrase.

One last point: the fact that colpito occurs more times than any other word may give some indication of its frequency, as may the fact that affetto does not appear in any contexts. But this is not to say that colpito is necessarily the best collocate, or that affetto is not possible.

When using corpora, we must content ourselves with trends rather than absolute statements.
