In section 1 (unit 6) you have already seen how parallel concordances can be of help to translators who want to find out how other professionals have dealt with problems similar to those they are confronted with.

Here you will have a chance to test this procedure yourself, using a section of the EUROPARL corpus, a collection of proceedings of the European Parliament which is freely downloadable from http://people.csail.mit.edu/koehn/publications/europarl/.

As you will see in the next page, obtaining a concordance from a monolingual corpus and from a parallel corpus are very similar procedures, involving no technical extra-effort on the part of the user. However, interpreting a parallel concordance will normally require you to read through the output more carefully, in order to identify the TL equivalent for your searchword(s).
