Now, going back to our initial question:

  • Are room temperature and ambient temperature used interchangeably (in similar contexts, with similar meanings)? In other words, are they synonymous?

Here is the answer we would give:

Though ambient temperature and room temperature might seem synonymous, and though both are attested in a specialised corpus, ambient temperature is not the conventional expression used to refer to the temperature at which wine is served, enjoyed etc, but rather to the actual temperature of a specific environment. Thus the two cannot be used interchangeably, and which should be used is not a matter of style or personal preference.
